The Farm-to-Consumer Foundation is offering a unique educational tele-seminar series
- Cow-Share College and Goat-Share University - a series of three classes that cover setting up, maintaining and upgrading a cow- or goat-share operation.
Cow-or goat-share operations are increasing in popularity as a legal alternative to raw milk sales in most states. While the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund provides legal advice and contracts, the Foundation saw a need for expert operations advice and an opportunity to create a learning community of cow- and goat-share operators that could learn from and with each other. Since consumers also initiate cow-share operations (finding a farmer willing to buy, board and milk their cow) these classes will be useful for both farmers and consumers at all levels of experience.
The goal of these classes is to provide expert legal and operations guidance in a timely, convenient and inexpensive format:
Timely - The series of three classes is repeated monthly and starts in September.
Convenient - Classes are conducted via telephone conference call. A push button phone with long distance access is all that is needed to participate.
Inexpensive - Classes are reasonably priced with discounts for three or more classes.
All classes are held on Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.(EDT) and are limited to
25 participants to keep the interactions interesting, but give plenty of time for personal attention.
Classes:
Cow/Goat Shares 101 - Basic (Legal & Operations) An introduction into cow/goat share contracts, set up, pricing and basic operations.
Dates: September 11, October 2 and November 6
Instructors: Tim Wightman and Pete Kennedy, Esq.

Instructors: Tim Wightman and Pete Kennedy, Esq.
Format: 90 minute open question and answer forum
Instructors:
Pete Kennedy is an attorney in Sarasota, Florida and is the Vice President of the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund. He works on dairy issues, particularly the right of farmers to distribute raw milk and raw milk products directly to consumers.
Each week, he helps an average of two to three farmers get started in cow or goat-share operations. He compiled the state raw milk laws and state raw milk summaries posted at www.realmilk.com. He is currently working with others to challenge the federal ban on the interstate shipment of raw milk for human consumption.
Tim Wightman is a lifetime farmer and a board member of the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund. He has pioneered CSAs, organic cooperatives, farmers' markets, the Cow-share program, Farm-share program while living in Northern Wisconsin. Tim now lives in Western Ohio and is currently operating a small raw milk dairy. Tim consults worldwide with dairy farmers on cow-shares, raw milk safety and direct marketing and is the author of the "Raw Milk Production Handbook".

Welcome to the Chicago Chapter of the WAPF!
The WESTON A. PRICE FOUNDATION® is a nonprofit, tax-exempt charity founded in 1999 to disseminate the research of nutrition pioneer Dr. Weston Price. Dr. Price's research demonstrated that humans achieve perfect physical form and perfect health generation after generation only when they consume nutrient-dense whole foods and the vital fat-soluble activators found exclusively in animal fats.
The Foundation is dedicated to restoring nutrient-dense foods to the human diet through education, research and activism. It supports a number of movements that contribute to this objective including accurate nutrition instruction, organic and biodynamic farming, pasture-feeding of livestock, community-supported farms, honest and informative labeling, prepared parenting and nurturing therapies.

Raw honey and bee pollen is also available as well as organic produce in the summer months, all from local, independent, organic farmers. They provide these foods fresh on a weekly basis (Weds pickup) from their southwest suburban home, and currently serve over 120 families from all areas of the Chicago metro. They continue to welcome new families to their cooperative and are happy to answer any questions you may have. They continue to search for the highest quality products at the most reasonable prices for their members as well as their own use.

"My brothers and I raise pastured beef, dairy cows, chicken and turkeys. We bought the farm from my father, and are striving towards the goal of becoming organically certified. We offer products that are free of antibiotics, growth hormones, pesticides, and herbicides. The beef cattle are Scottish Highlanders, good grazers producing leaner meat. Our pastured poultry are moved every day to fresh grass. The free-ranging hens have pasture with the cattle to produce the nutritious, richly colored, good-tasting eggs health conscious people prefer. Their "egg-mobile" building is pulled along to give them new grazing areas. Baled hay and GMO free feed are given as needed. We have a herd share program for milk. We are about 30 miles southeast of Goshen Indiana. Be sure to call a couple days ahead if you plan on stopping by, as our freezers are up the road a ways."
